How Paediatric First Aid Differs from Adult First Aid
Looking after a child is different from helping an adult. Their bodies work differently, and that changes everything about first aid.

What You’ll Learn on a Paediatric First Aid Course
Our paediatric first aid training follows the Ofsted‑approved syllabus. Over two days, you’ll get plenty of hands‑on practice:
Child and infant CPR: Correct compressions and rescue breaths for babies and children, and AED use. This is the core of any child and infant CPR course Cambridgeshire; you’ll practise until it feels natural.
Choking relief: Babies put everything in their mouths. You’ll learn to spot blockages and deliver back blows and chest thrusts for each age group.

Who Needs This Training?
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework requires at least one person with a valid paediatric first aid certificate to be on the premises whenever children are present. That person must also accompany children on outings.
For childminders, it’s stricter. Every childminder must hold a current certificate before registering with Ofsted. Any assistant left in sole charge must also be qualified. It’s the law.
Nurseries, preschools, and schools need paediatric first-aid training that’s always up to date.
New Level 2 and Level 3 staff also need to hold a certificate. Parents can ask to see yours anytime.

How Long Does a Paediatric First Aid Certificate Last?
Your paediatric first aid certificate is valid for three years from the date you complete the course. After that, it expires, and you’re no longer considered qualified to act as a paediatric first aider.
To stay compliant with Ofsted and the EYFS framework, you must complete the full two‑day course again. There’s no shorter requalification option for paediatric first aid; you do the whole thing from scratch. Why? Because guidelines and best practices evolve.
